Lindy: Ah Fizz

My favorite Chicago venue...

Don't get me wrong, I love the nostalgia that comes along with Willowbrook, but for the best dancing in Chicago, Fizz is the place to be on Monday nights.

Since it was just after the exchange, they decided to have a jack and jill competition (random music, random partner). I entered because they needed more leads. Now, I'm not big on competitions, though I've been in a handful of jack and jills over the years, and it is just dancing in front of other people, which isn't a big deal for me.

I haven't danced much in the past six weeks, and I haven't danced fast in, uh, well, a long time, and my style tends to be more focused on good connection than in how I look. Then all the dancers I was paired with were follows I hadn't danced with before.

I still took second. I mean, this isn't a huge deal for me, but it was kind of like taking fourth in the Austin Jack and Jill in March, it is just kind of fun to know that other people like to watch you dance.

I'm not a fan of "spotlight" dances, where each couple dances a few measures on their own. I have a hard time getting the feel of the music before being put on the spot. I'd much rather dance the whole song, even if it means the judges only see the worst third of my dancing.

The rest of the night was great as well. The Blue Moon Special (Blue Moon beer and Blue Cheese hamburgers, with fries for $5), lots of Chicago follows I hadn't danced enough with over the weekend. A hot dance with Adeoye (man, do I need to learn how to follow). A very excellent end to an excellent evening.
